Rebecca Melliard knew she wanted to be an artist following a visit to St Ives with her family when she was 16.

Already a talented painter, she was struck by how the bright light touched the landscape, and was inspired by artists making a living from incorporating the Cornish coast into their work.

Rebecca graduated with a degree in fine art from the University for the Creative Arts. She followed this with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) specialising in art and design. Her career has seen her teach early years and art within primary schools, enabling her to deliver the curriculum in a creative way. She has used her skills as an artist to plan lessons and helped other schools to organise their art events.

Rebecca’s passion lies in the process of painting – manipulating the paint and layering the surface to create texture and movement. In this innovative way, she creates a history for the painting itself. Rebecca also uses mixed media to create multiple layers and forms a sculptural aspect to her work.

Rebecca currently works on individual commissions and runs art workshops for local schools. She also offers private tuition. She lives in West Sussex with her husband and children.
